Monday morning, Jo had gone off to work earlier and Andy was sitting at the green garden table outside the back door writing in an old school notebook. A soft breeze found its way into the narrow space of the garden every now and then, softly lifting the edges of the pages. Hennie was lying in her bouncer on the table beside him. She was wide awake, her fingers occupied with the dangling things hanging from the bouncer’s canopy. He had decided earlier not to take her to the creche. It was a beautiful day and she was in such a calm mood, he had wanted to enjoy being with her in the peace and quiet of the morning, just the pair of them together in the sunny back garden. It calmed him to be near her when she was in this mood. As he wrote he was aware of her making gurgling sounds, the sounds of contentment.

He had begun writing up his notes on Lang with an account of their first meeting.
